VIDEO: Datsyuk’s OT winner gives the Wings two crucial points against the Avalanche

Pavel Datsyuk had the first and last laugh Friday night as the Detroit Red Wings picked up two crucial points in a 3-2 overtime win against the Avalanche.

Datsyuk opened up the scoring in the first period when he picked up his 12th goal of the season on the power play after a nice feed from Johan Franzen. But it was his second goal that turned out to be the game winner in overtime as Datsyuk was able to push an idle puck past J.S. Giguere with 13 seconds left in the extra frame.

After a nice first period that also saw a nifty goal from Gustav Nyquist the Red Wings struggled to hanker down on defense as the Avalanche pressed hard in the second and third periods. Colorado was able to tie the game at two with 6:29 left in the third when P.A. Parenteau batted in a pass from Jamie McGinn and Matt Duchene which was a result of yet another Red Wing giveaway in their own zone.

Jimmy Howard once again though kept is team in the game making 32 saves on 34 shots.

In his first game with the Red Wings CCHA standout Danny DeKeyser looked pretty good logging 16 and a half minutes including some important ice time in the overtime period.
