Rondon Optioned to Toledo, Roster Down to 26

According to MLB Trade Rumors Facebook page and the Detroit Free Press, The Tigers have optioned Bruce Rondon, the closer in waiting, to Toledo to start the year. Rondon has had a very rough spring with his line being:

13 Appearances, 12.1 Innings Pitched, 5.84 ERA, 17 Hits, 8 Earned Runs, 9 Walks, 19 k’s, .327 BAA, 2.11 WHIP

Ouch! After stringing together 5 solid outings in a row, Rondon was lit up yesterday, promoting his demotion. He’s only 22 years old, and will be back at some point during the 2013 campaign. Rondon is considered to be the 95th best prospect in baseball by Baseball America.

At the same time the Tigers have optioned RHP Luis Marte to Toledo as well, bringing only one other roster decision to be made.
