Jan Mursak waived
According to Helen St. James of the Detroit Free Press, the Wings waived oft-injured forward Jan Mursak.
Ken Holland stated that the move was done to get Mursak more playing time however James points out that if that extra playing time comes with another team the Wings can live with it.
“He needs to play,” general manager Ken Holland told the Free Press. If that ends up being for another organization, the Wings can live with it.
Mursak has had a tough time dealing with injuries throughout his NHL career. After breaking an ankle during the preseason last year Mursak was sidelined once again with injury this season and only appeared in his second game of the year Thursday against Columbus.
If Mursak clears waivers he will be sent to Grand Rapids.
Quincey day-to-day with a leg injury

Defenseman Kyle Quincey is listed as day-to-day with a leg injury Ken Holland announced Friday after a collision with Blue Jackets forward Artem Anisimov during Thursday’s 3-2 loss to the Blue Jackets.
Despite the injury though the Wings still don’t plan on calling anyone up. Jakub Kindl is healthy and ready to go while Brendan Smith who has been dealing with a shoulder injury should be ready to go by Wednesday.
Here’s some other news and noteworthy items:
- Forward Johan Franzen will be out through the weekend as he’s still dealing with a hip flexor.
- After dealing with blurred vision and a 3-2 loss to the Blue Jackets, Jimmy Howard is scheduled to get the start in net Saturday against Nashville.
