A timely penalty kill and a nice return between the pipes for Jimmy Howard helped push the Wings to a 2-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers Saturday afternoon from the Joe.
In addition to Howard’s productive day, Pavel Datsyuk also had a big outing with a goal (power play) and an assist in what was probably his best game yet of the season. Niklas Kronwall also had a goal on the power play his first of the season which ended up being the game winner.
The Wings also got a huge penalty kill late in the game after Johan Franzen was called for closing his hands on the puck.
Jimmy Howard ended up making 23 saves in the win.
On the power play Detroit was 2/7 while generating 30 shots on goal while Edmonton was 1/8 with 24 total shots on goal.
The Wings now move to 6-4-1 on the season as they prepare to take on the defending Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings Sunday from the Joe.
