Report: Pistons could be third team in Toronto/Memphis deal to acquire Jose Calderon

It looks as though Rudy Gay is heading north of the border as the Toronto Raptors and Memphis Grizzlies have agreed to a deal in principle. Going to Memphis would be forward Ed Davis and guard Jose Calderon however a third team would become involved to acquire Calderon from the Grizzlies.

Marc Stein of ESPN believes that the Pistons (along with the Mavericks) could be that third team to get Calderon even going as far to say that Detroit is at the front of the line.

So who could the Pistons part with so all money matches up?

Stein further speculates that the Pistons could part with either Tayshaun Prince or Corey Maggette while Matt Dery of 97.1FM The Ticket mentions that the Grizzlies have been calling around the League doing background checks on Prince.

Of course a lot may depend on what happens with Dallas who Stein says is reluctant to part with Vince Carter…

Obviously this would be huge for the Pistons if they were able to rid themselves of Prince (or Maggette) while taking on Calderon’s expiring deal. Even so this season alone Calderon’s presence will help open things up a bit in the back court as Lawrence Frank may be enabled to move Brandon Knight over to the two spot with Calderon taking over the point.

UPDATE: It looks like the Pistons would be ready to send Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye to the Grizzlies for Calderon.

UPDATE 6:22PM ET: Adrian Wojnarowski seems to also be confirming that the Pistons will send Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye to the Grizzlies for Calderon.
