Here is raw video footage (shown on Fox 2’s Sports Works) of Jose Valverde pitching in a simulated game Sunday from Comerica Park in preparation of the World Series beginning Wednesday in either San Francisco or St. Louis.
During the outing (via the Detroit Free Press) Valverde surrendered a walk, two singles (to Fielder and Cabrera) and a run in his one inning of work. Of course this isn’t good news as it looks as though the same mechanical and perhaps psychological problems are still getting to the Tigers’ closer.
Valverde did manage however to strike out Austin Jackson before issuing the walk to Andy Dirks.
It seems as though Tigers manager Jim Leyland is going to stick with keeping Valverde on the World Series roster despite his struggles and not pitching since giving up a four run lead in Game 1 of the ALCS last Saturday.
Meanwhile according to the Free Press, Don Kelly and Alex Avila both had home runs, reliever Octavio Dotel pitched a 1-2-3 inning before fielding bunts while a pair of two minor league pitchers struck out Brennan Boesch.
