Frank Gifford

NFL Hall of Famer, former New York Giant and USC Trojan Frank Gifford passed away today at the age of 84 according to a released statement from his family.

After a hall of fame college career as an All-American with Southern California, Gifford played wide receiver and running back for the New York Giants between 1952 to 1954. During his time with the G-Men, Gifford went on to be a four-time Pro Bowler and six-time All-Pro before being elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Aside from his football career, Gifford also served as a play-by-play analyst for Monday Night Football starting between 1971 to 1985. One of Gifford’s more notable calls was announcing to the world the death of John Lennon live on air.

Gifford was eventually joined in the Monday Night Football booth in 1985 by Al Michaels where he’d finish out his tenure with ABC until 1997.

Gifford was also married to Today Show host Kathy Lee Gifford since 1986.
