Brandon Inge will be given the chance to play second… FML.

According to the twitter page of Tom Gage, Brandon Inge will be given the chance to compete for the starting second base position after he totally went over the head of manager Jim Leyland.

After a 2011 in which the 34-year-old Inge hit .197 with a demotion to Triple-A Toledo he will be given the opportunity to compete with the likes of Ramon Santiago and Ryan Raburn during Spring Training.

Unfortunately for Tigers fans this means more drama surrounding a career .230 hitter who quite frankly should’ve been gone a few years ago.

How much more Brandon Inge nonsense must we go through? And please spare me the argument that he’s good in the community and a good guy off the field. That’s great Brandon, thanks for the memories but this isn’t 2004, 2005 or even 2006. Not to mention last time I checked being a good guy off the field DOESN’T WIN YOU A WORLD SERIES!

As far as I’m concerned he’s a horrible guy in the clubhouse that has caused the team more problems than what he’s worth.

Inge was unhappy when the Tigers got Pudge and yet they catered to him (Inge). He was unhappy when the team got Cabrera and yet the team catered to him. Then to no one surprise he was unhappy when they got Fielder and still the team catered to him.

I’ve never seen a team go out of their way to cater to a .230 player.

Oh but I forgot, he’s such a great player in the field… PLEASE.

At 34, Inge is a mediocre defender at best who can’t hit to save his life. He has absolutely nothing to offer this team other than filling in for Miguel Cabrera at third base in the late innings. Yet Inge’s head is so big he believes he’s still too good for that.

At this point Inge is a backup infielder who is barely hanging onto major league status. He should be grateful it lasted this long considering he should’ve been a backup his entire career.

Bottom line is Inge isn’t a team player. He isn’t competitive player. He’s a selfish player who simply isn’t worth the effort.

It’s time to finally close the book on the Brandon Inge chapter in Detroit.
