Germaine de Randamie scored a historic win last night defeating Holly Holm for the first ever women’s featherweight title at UFC 208.

However the win didn’t come without controversy after the Dutch fighter landed two late hits after the bell in round’s two and three without getting docked any points. In fact that first late shot in the second seemed to really stun Holm who appeared to lean on the ref in the immediate wake.

A dock in even one of the late hits would have been the difference in the end as de Randamie edged out Holm 48-47 on the three judge’s scorecards.

“It was an accident to hit her after the bell, it was never intentional,” de Randamie (7-3) said. “It was just the heat of the moment. I am not that kind of fighter. Holly is a tremendous champion and I truly respect her but I am a brawler and I love to fight.

“I want to fight everybody and I will fight anybody so we will see who is next.”

de Randamie also announced after the fight that she’s willing to defend the featherweight title against Cris Cyborg who was octagon-side last night. However the new champion first said she’ll need to undergo surgery to repair some ligaments in her hand.
