If you needed more proof that Vancouver Canucks forward Alex Burrows is a complete tool, then here it is.

The incident came 20 minutes into game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals. Both players began to jaw at each other (one literally) and they eventually had to be separated by the linesmen. It was when the two players were being separated Bergeron’s hand got close to Burrows’ mouth and it was then Burrows decided to take a bite out of it.

Burrows was given a double minor penalty at the 20:00 minute mark in the first while Bergeron was only assessed a roughing minor.

Here is what Bergeron told WEEI in Boston when asked if Burrows bit him…

“Oh yeah, he did,” Bergeron. “He cut me a little bit on my finger, but I’m not going to complain about it. I’ll let the league do their job, but he sure did [bite me].”

Bergeron and Burrows were each given roughing penalties for their tussle at the end of the period, though Bergeron’s was a minor and Burrows’ was a double-minor. Bergeron wanted further action to be taken against Burrows, though the refs did not see the play. Bergeron was uncharacteristically irate following the play.

“They didn’t see it, but we were speaking French and I [asked Burrows] why did he do that,” Bergeron said. “That lineseman speaks French, and he said that [Burrows’] explanation was that he put my finger in his mouth and he had to do it.”

The Canucks eventually went on to win game 1 1-0 off of a Raffi Torres goal in the final seconds of the third period. However does what Burrows did warrant a suspension from the league? What Burrows did is something 5 year old’s do on a school playground when they get into a fight. So of course it warrants a suspension. But, given that it is the Stanley Cup finals and Burrows is an important piece to the Canucks’ lineup it wouldn’t surprise me if the league slaps him with a fine and nothing else.
