Police Converge Mass

Shortly after the FBI released photographs and surveillance video of two suspects they believed were directly involved in the Boston Marathon terror attacks huge developments in the criminal investigation occurred in the late Thursday early Friday morning hours.

FBI RELEASES PHOTOGRAPHS AND SURVEILLANCE VIDEO OF BOSTON MARATHON BOMBING SUSPECTS

Here’s the timeline of the events:

  • After the release of the photographs Thursday evening the suspects in the bombings have been identified as Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Chechen brothers who have lived in the U.S. for at least 12 years according to Deadspin.
  • Shortly after 10PM ET, the two brothers robbed a 7-Eleven in Cambridge which is just north of Boston. Camera’s at the 7-Eleven also captured another image of 19-year old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev who was suspect No. 2 wearing the white baseball cap in the FBI photos yesterday.

  • Not long after robbing the 7-Eleven, the two carjacked an SUV forcing the driver to remain in the vehicle. While in their custody the hostage said that the two brothers admitted that they were the Boston Marathon bombers from Monday (ABC News). The hostage was later released unharmed at a gas station.
  • Just after 1AM ET, police pursued the vehicle where a massive gun battled ensued.

  • During the shootout, the Times and the Herald reported that the two suspects hurled explosives at police officers. During the shootout one transit police officer whose been identified as 33-year-old Richard Donahue was severely wounded.

  • 26-year old Tamerlan Tsarnaev was also reported to be critically wounded in the gun battle. He was then taken to Beth Israel Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:35PM ET. Further reports suggest that he had explosives strapped to him. It’s also suggested that he had gunshot wounds, burns and was actually run over by his younger brother in the chaos. Witnesses also say Tsarnaev ran towards officers before he collapsed. These details though haven’t fully been confirmed.
  • Dzhokhar Tsarnaev the 19-year old eluded police by driving off in the SUV and is currently being pursued in a massive manhunt. Law enforcement officials have set up a 20 block perimeter in Waterloo, Massachusetts. A resident of the area snapped these photos and posted them on her Twitter page.

  • Currently the city of Boston is on lockdown to prevent anyone being taken hostage. Airspace over the city is also closed however Logan International Airport remains open. Residents of Boston, Belmont, Brookline, Cambridge, Newton, Waltham, and Watertown to stay inside their homes. All MBTA service has also been shut down, as have taxis as this manhunt continues.
  • According to WBZ-TV the suspects uncle says the two brothers moved to the United States in 2000 or 2001.
  • According to a Globe reporter on the scene, police have surrounded a Norfolk apartment where the two suspects reportedly lived. A woman was reportedly taken from the apartment but isn’t considered a suspect.
