In a move that was very much expected, West Virginia has fired their head football coach Bill Steward amid allegations that he asked members of the media to dig up dirt on head coach in waiting Dana Holgorsen. Now just weeks after being removed from a casino after being cut off from the bar Dana Holgorsen will take over in Morgantown and see his salary increase to $1.4 million dollars. This could increase by $250,000 every year he stays with West Virginia.

According to various media outlets including SportingNews, the University will allow Stewart to resign publicly after being accused of “conduct detrimental to the University”.

Stewart was on his way out as head coach prior to this scandal. He (Stewart) was to coach the team through 2011 then take a job in the WVU athletic department handing the team over Holgorsen.

Stewart had been under constant scrutiny as the head coach of the Mountaineers ever since becoming the interim head coach after Rich Rodriguez’s sudden departure in 2007. Stewart was able to lead West Virginia to a Fiesta Bowl victory over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl and had the interim tag removed the following the game.

Aside from the allegations asking the media to dig up dirt on Holgorsen, WVU athletic director Oliver Luck said that Stewart was being removed from the head coaching position due to floundering ticket sales under the Steward regime.
