DRIVE4COPD 300

It was a horrific scene at Daytona Saturday afternoon as Kyle Larson’s car flew into the catch fence sending debris including tires and a hot engine into the main grandstand. Larson himself was uninjured however a total of 28 spectators were injured including two who are in critical condition, one of which is a child.

Speedway president Joie Chitwood said afterwards that 14 of the injured were treated at the track while 14 others were transported to the hospital.

NASCAR vice president Steve O’Donnell said NASCAR will conduct a full investigation to see if new safety measures are needed. Quite frankly though it’s pretty amazing something like this doesn’t happen more often given the high speeds.

And here’s a spectators view of the incident shot by shot by Tyler Andersen.
