Dallas Cowboys practice squad member Jerry Brown was killed in a car crash early Saturday morning in which teammate Josh Brent was at the wheel. As a result the defensive tackle Brent was booked on intoxication manslaughter charges according to the Irving Police Department via NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport on Twitter:

News reports out of Dallas say that the accident occurred when the car Brent was driving struck a curb and rolled.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones released a statement about the incident on Saturday afternoon:

We are deeply saddened by the news of this accident and the passing of Jerry Brown. At this time, our hearts and prayers and deepest sympathies are with the members of Jerry’s family and all those who knew him and loved him.

Brown and Brent were teammates in college at the University of Illinois and were reportedly roommates this season. The 24-year-old Brent has played for the Cowboys since 2010 accumulating one and a half sacks and a forced fumble on the year. He played for Illinois from 2007 to 2009 and was taken in the 7th round of the 2010 supplemental draft by the Cowboys.

Jerry Brown, a native of St. Louis played in the Arena Football League and briefly in the Canadian Football League before signing on with Indianapolis to start this season. Before signing on with Dallas’ practice squad Brown played in one game for the Colts back in Week 6. He was only 25 years old.
