San Francisco Giants 6 vs. Cincinnati Reds 4
The San Francisco Giants defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-4 Thursday completing an improbable comeback in their NLDS series after dropping their first two at home. The Giants and Nationals were scoreless until the 5th inning when Buster Posey hit a grand slam off Reds starter Mat Latos. The Reds were able to get within two however Sergio Romo was able to nail things down and send the Giants to the NLCS.
St. Louis Cardinals 1 vs. Washington Nationals 2
The Washington Nationals stayed alive in their best-of-five divisional series with a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Nationals ensured a Game 5 when Jayson Werth hit a solo shot in the bottom of the 9th off Cardinals reliever Lance Lynn.
Baltimore Orioles 2 vs. New York Yankees 1
In an AL East that came down to the wire, it seems only fitting that an ALDS between the two top teams in the division goes to a Game 5 and that’s just what happened Thursday night as Baltimore defeated the New York Yankees 2-1 in 13 innings. J.J. Hardy got the go ahead hit in the top of the 13th when he doubled off of Yankees reliever David Phelps scoring Manny Machado. Orioles closer Jim Johnson got some redemption in the bottom half of the inning setting the Yankees down 1-2-3 and earning the save.
Detroit Tigers 6 vs. Oakland A’s 0
Unlike their Bay Area counterparts, the A’s couldn’t complete the series comeback as they fell to the Tigers 6-0 in Game 5 from the O.co Coliseum. Justin Verlander was absolutely magnificent for Detroit pitching a four hit complete game shutout to send the Tigers to their second straight ALCS.
