The Miami Marlins have made the first big splash in MLB free agency.

According to various sources, including Buster Olney of ESPN, the Marlins have agreed to terms with free agent shortstop Jose Reyes on a six-year deal worth reportedly $106 million dollars. In addition to this there also may be a seventh year included in the deal worth $22 million dollars. If the Marlins decide not to use the option, they will still have to pay Reyes $5 million dollars.

Earlier in the offseason, Miami offered Reyes a six-year deal worth $90 million which he rejected.

The 28-year-old Reyes is coming off his best season thus far hitting .337 for the New York Mets to win his first batting title. In nine season with the Mets, Reyes he has batted .292 with 370 steals and 740 runs scored.

After the signing of Reyes and reliever Heath Bell, the Marlins do not appear to be done shopping. According to the same sources that reported the Reyes deal, the Marlins appear to be the lead candidates for free agent slugger Albert Pujols.
