After speculation the Chicago White Sox dealt starter Edwin Jackson and third baseman Mark Teahen to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for reliever Jason Frasor and starter Zach Stewart. This is according to Mark Gonzalez of the Chicago Tribune. The deal will also reportedly an exchange of $1 million dollars.

There are a couple of interesting factors to consider in this deal. One, the Chicago White Sox are for the most part still in the race for the AL Central. They are currently 4.5 games back of the division lead and face the Tigers in a rubber match today from U.S. Cellular. Trading away a piece of your starting rotation seems as though the white flag has been raised by White Sox GM Kenny Williams, especially since Jackson has been very serviceable for Chicago this season possessing a 3.92 ERA, 7.2 K/9, 2.9 BB/9, 0.59 HR/9 and 46.9% groundball rate in 121 2/3 innings.

On the other hand the Blue Jays are 11 games out of the AL wild card so it makes you wonder why they would pursue a starting pitcher who will be a free agent at the end of the season. The speculation here is that Jackson will be flipped possibly to the St. Louis Cardinals.

UPDATE: After acquiring Jackson the Blue Jays then him along with relievers Marc Rzepczynski and Octavio Dotel to the St. Louis Cardinals for center fielder Colby Rasmus and pitchers Trever Miller, Brian Tallet, and P.J. Walters.
