Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers are close to completing a long term deal. Reports are to say its through 2020.

In Newtons first four seasons he has 82-Passing TD’s and 54-INT’s. Plus 33-Rushing Touchdowns. That’s a combined total of 115-total touchdowns. There are only two other players who have had more total touchdowns in their first four seasons.

  • Dan Marino- 144 TD’s (Passing and Rushing)
  • Peyton Manning- 118 TD’s (Passing and Rushing)

Newton is set to make a little over $14 million in the 2015 season and sources say that the contract could be worth up to $20 to $21 Million per season.

Newton’s overall record is 30-31-1, 1-2 in the playoffs. His 33-rushing touchdowns are the most by any quarterback in his first four seasons of their career.

$20 million plus paid QB’s in the NFL:

  1. Aaron Rodgers- $22 Mill per season
  2. Ben Roethlisberger- $21.850 Mill per season
  3. Matt Ryan- $20.750 Mill per season
  4. Joe Flacco- $20.100 Mill per season
  5. Drew Brees- $20 Mill per season

UPDATE:

Cam Newton and the Panthers have agreed to the extension:

From one of the best rookie seasons in the history of the NFL to an NFC South division championship and to an injury plagued 2014 season. The Carolina Panthers have agreed to a contract extension with their quarterback, Cam Newton. The 6’6″ mobile quarterback will be staying in Carolina until at least 2020 as he’s set to sign a 5-year contract extension and it will total over $100 million dollars.

Now Cam has his money and will get a significant raise from the $14.67 million dollars he was set to be paid this year. But even though you’ll get paid as an elite quarterback, doesn’t mean you are one. Newton has had his sure ups and downs with the Panthers. He’s had his health concerns and he’s had his inconsistencies, however, he was a shell of his 2012 self last year. This move is a good move for the Panthers and it was a much needed one. They have begun to put weapons in place for him to be more successful from Kelvin Benjamin to Devin Funchess and a revamped offensive line. I think 2015 will be a big year for Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers and their quarterback will play more like Superman rather than Lex Luthor.
