Albert Pujols – the future first ballot Hall of Famer joined the 500-home-run club after sending home run’s 499 and 500 into the seats at Nationals Park on Tuesday night. Albert Pujols took Taylor Jordan deep twice in five innings to cement himself as the 26th player in MLB history to join the illustrious club. Albert is the first player in MLB history to hit numbers 499 and 500 in the same game and the third youngest player in history to reach the incredible milestone.
Albert, who started his career with twelve consecutive seasons of 30 or more home runs before having an injury plagued 2013 campaign, finally looks healthy again. His two home runs and five RBI in the nations capital put him at 8 home runs and 19 RBI through the Angels’ first 20 games. Pujols came into the 2014 season claiming it was the healthiest he has been in a few years and although it’s only April 22, he is proving that he meant it. Albert Pujols who is a tremendous family man, also finally has his family living in Southern California, which has made him feel more comfortable and a lot happier.
Pujols still has a long way to go on his $240 million dollar contract he signed in December of 2011 but he looks like the Albert Pujols we were all accustomed to seeing in St. Louis. If he remains healthy, then he will certainly hit home run number 600 with the Angels and become only the 9th player in MLB history to accomplish that milestone.
