UConn’s improbable run to the NCAA Tournament Championship was completed Monday night as they defeated No. 8 Kentucky 60-54 becoming the first 7-seed to win the National Title.

Shabazz Napier led the way for the Huskies with 22 points 3 assists and 6 rebounds in the win. For Kentucky James Young had 20 points as he accounted for most of the Wildcat scoring with Julius Randle being the only other UK player to reach double digit scoring netting 1o points.

Both teams weren’t great from the field as UConn went 22/53 with Kentucky shooting just below that at 18/46. Both teams were also pretty even when it come to rebounds as the Huskies held the slight edge at 33-32. Kentucky however was unable to capitalize off Connecticut’s fouls as the Wildcats were 13 of 24 in free throw attempts and just .312 from three-point range.

For Connecticut the win marks their third National Championship in the past 15 seasons.
