Friday afternoon embattled Yankee third baseman Alex Rodriguez announced that he would drop his lawsuit against the MLB and MLBPA ultimately accepting his 162 game suspension for 2014 which ends his season before it’s starts.

So with the announcement, it would seem that this whole mess is over right?

Well it is and it isn’t in a couple of different ways.

First, let’s be honest here when you’re talking about Alex Rodriguez I guess anything is possible. Given the amount of evidence against him it would’ve seemed like it was in his best interest just to accept the original ban and move on. But he didn’t which leaves us where we’re at now.

Then there’s the possible irreparable damage done not only to Major League Baseball but Alex Rodriguez himself.

Bud Selig and the League looked terrible with the investigation and the allegations that they impeded a state agency‘s investigation into Anthony Bosch. On top of that there’s also the bottom line questions on how exactly they got the information they did.

Then again with baseball the fans will forget and move on.

When it comes to A-Rod it may not be that easy and the damage done to his image may never be repaired. Essentially what else does he have to lose going forward? A revisited lawsuit down the line shouldn’t surprise anyone.
