ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen reported Monday evening that Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt has accepted an offer to become the new head coach of the Tennessee Titans.

Whisenhunt accepts the offer less than 24 hours after San Diego was eliminated from the playoffs by the Denver Broncos and after he seemed all but certain to become the next head coach of the Detroit Lions. Aside from that though Whisenhunt brings a pretty stellar record into Music City as a quarterback coach given his time with Ben Roethlisberger, Kurt Warner, and Philip Rivers.

What is yet to be seen though is long-term success as head coach.

After taking the Arizona Cardinals to the Super Bowl (before ultimately failing to the Steelers) Whisenhunt’s coaching tenure in the desert came to an end after going 5-11 in 2010, 8-8 in 2011 and 5-11 in 2012. To be fair though this all came after the retirement of Kurt Warner and during the ill fated tenure of Derek Anderson.
