The Detroit Red Wings announced during an 11AM ET press conference Monday that veteran defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom will return for his 20th season with the team. This was reported by Ansar Khan of Mlive.com.

The reported terms of the contract are at one-year for $6.2 million dollars. This was the same amount he made last season in which he was named a finalist for the Norris Trophy recognizing the best defenseman in the league.

Initial early reports had Lidstrom coming back to the team so Monday’s announcement didn’t come as much of a surprise to the Red Wings organization and their fans.

Confirmation of Lidstrom’s return however is a relief to the organization and fans since the sudden retirement of Brian Rafalski.
